So you think a tall guy wont fit in a race car?
Over the last 3 years, I have built a race car that I can fit myself into... all 6'10 of me!
It certainly has not been easy. I had to think about all the minor details that most would overlook. And even now that the car is built, I still have to fold myself up like a pretzel to get in and out of the car. BUT, I have made it work and I am about to take the car to the track and race it, something that seemed like a far fetched idea all those years ago.
I honestly think this is just the start, and getting this car on track is just the start of some bigger things to come. Go ahead and subscribe to the channel to go along with the journey with me, or live vicariously through my misadventures!
Cheers guys,
Big Mitch

Building A Drink System For A Race Car!
Переглядів 4327 місяців тому
Do you want to have a drink system in your race car? Stay hydrated for long periods by installing a drink system powered by a small pump that can flow water right to your helmet. I have been wanting to do this for a while, and i finally decided it was time to build a system for my race car that was relatively simple and easy to maintain and manage. Now when I go racing, i will be able to have a...

8:07 I feel like grinding sparks around a fuel line fitting is slightly less than ideal. 😵
Despite the fact that it's been a year since it happened, I went to Winternationals on the weekend and you could still sense some nerves early on with the new surface and not knowing what to expect. By the end, people were relaxed and I think that is what was needed to get Willowbank back on track. It didn't see much racing last year but this weekend gone, Sam must have been watching over to make sure everyone was safe. While I am not religious, you could feel the cloud lift. I'm a circuit racer but come from a drag racing family. When it happened at the time, it was a rude shock. I remember discussing whether or not to go and had a gut feeling early on in the day saying not too. I didn't and I am glad I didn't. We may race different categories but at the end of the day, motorsport is one big family. We never want to see anyone hurt and when a fellow racer doesn't make it home, it's sad for everyone.
Do you have the link for the water pump mate
I understood the regs to require everything engine-wise stock to keep cost down - what mods are being done by builders?
Machining of some parts of the head for valves and such. Some of the castings can be better than others, so a lot of flow testing is done as well to see which head will flow the best. And I’m sure there are some little tricks that are done to get the extra little bits of speed
😃nice wheels and nice to know of Hype racing The headlight package is great Just what I need Great catalog too👍
Sorry to hear about the trouble you’re having So frustrating I’m sure Hope things get sorted soon for you 😃🏁
I’m sure they will :)
Nice one mate ! Loved the Gordon picture 🤣🤣🤣. Pepsi please sponsor BIg RIg !! 😀
Wouldn’t that be nice!
About time someone told it how it is. Gordon is one of natures true gentleman.
He absolutely is. Will help out anyone, in anyway possible
Whos car
Always happy to help you mate well done 👍 another great video
Nice driving mate ! Looked a few that don’t know the rules on yellow though😮 big wet rig more like 🤣🤣well done Mitch
Congratulations on your best race yet! I love racing in the rain. It always creates such an opportunity. Sounds like you can take advantage of it, since you're obviously not afraid of rain racing... Not everyone can say that. That's awesome!
When your car was surging, do you recall how full your tank was? Wonder if you were running low and it was sloshing under hard turns...it could be a loose electrical connector too - consider replacing one item at a time otherwise you risk creating new problems if any new parts are defective - good luck!
One criticism. It would be nice if you broke/edited the video into Qual, R1, R2 etc or add captions. But otherwise all good, keep going forward!
What a great video. Right in the thick of it now, and more overtake per lap than an entire season of F1. What a brilliant category. So nice to see you take home the trophy 🏆 for the front room... So your wife can see it everyday 👋👍😀
Haha thanks mate. Was awesome fun, that’s for sure!
gee whiz, thats alot of rain... 3rd! well done didn't see that. also your car looks so much better than all of the other ones.
20th of how many cars? thumnail looked good👍
Weekend started with about 28 cars. Finished the last race in 13th.
@@BigRigRacing thats not bad. Is the field pretty even, or does it depend on what car you've got?
@@bones5258 generally pretty even depending on the engine you have, and how heavy the car is. My car is a heavier car with me in it, and has a stock engine, so it works pretty hard when I race it. I have a new race engine on the way, so hopefully that will help out alot
😃great job Nice to see you enjoying all the work that you’ve put into this car 👍 Got to say nice driving in the wet💯great learning experience You did great 😃👍
Absolutely mate. Had a blast out there and was fun having a steer in the rain
You should always use WD40 or similar on the injector O rings. Allows them to slip easily into the fuel rail and manifold. You need to be 100% sure that the fuel pump sock is actually sitting on the floor of the tank and not squashing the sock. Good luck at your next race.
Great shots of our city Mitch. I'm a long time lurker and started watching again as my brother and I are beginning our Excel build!
That’s awesome mate :). It’s a fun adventure and you learn lots. Don’t be afraid to make a mistake or two, you will learn along the way.
thx man! Godspeed
Hard to find any videos on these. Does the wheel lock in nice and tight or does it have play/wiggle if you shake it around?
Nice and tight. When you seat it on, just give it a slight pull back and it sits in perfectly. But when it’s locked on, there is not wiggle or movement
@@BigRigRacing nice. thanks for the reply. Just bought some omp wrc-r seats and now I can't get in the truck with the wheel in way haha.... Definitely will be picking up one of these quick releases.
YO MR BOYCE\
Nice video. Are you able to share the wiring diagram?
Hey Mitch, awesome work. Not only have you made a cost effective solution, your 'how to' video is on point! I race budget endurance, do you make the radio/drink helmet mounts or are you able to share the CAD files?
Thanks mate :) It’s worked well so far, and I’m really happy with how it turned out. I still need to refine some of the parts of it like the radio and drink mounts. I found that when connecting them, the radio jack on the car side would slip a little, and the actual mount would slip a little on the roll cage. Hopefully I’ll get the refined versions done soon and test them out to see how they go. Once I’m happy I’m thinking of selling them for whoever would Iike them
I just installed braum sliders in a mk6 gti, I can barely fit with the sliders all the way back. Any tips? Do you find rear sliders never go back enough for us taller guys?
Generally in sliders, no they don’t. My seat is hard mounted to the chassis, so I could place the seat as far back as possible. The only option I could see with sliders is to potentially engineer some seat mounts further back then attach the sliders to that so you have some extra leg room
Hi, I’ve got a Trak Racer TR160 Simulator and I’ve been looking around for a similar system from maybe a 2 or 3 litre bottle but don’t need it coming up into a helmet but wanting to hook it up to a button on my steering wheel, button box or like you a just a button. If you could 3D print the bottle holder, pump case etc… but don’t need the button holder as I’m going to have a Stream Desk button box, so if I can’t wire it to my steering wheel, maybe the button box, …… Will that work, any thoughts?? What price do you think the cost would be please? I was going to try and build one myself, but looking at yours, there’s a little more involved than what I thought with all the valves etc.. How do I contact you to give you my phone number to have a chat? I look forward to hearing from you soon. Kind regards Mark
What a nice gesture!
Good on you, big fella.
You are amazing ❤❤
Nice summary of a packed plan and schedule, Mitch. Looks like a great year ahead.
Looking forward to some dyno vids - if you haven't yet, I'd recommend checking fuel pressure too to make sure your fuel pump is up to task - a digital fuel pressure sensor/gauge would be useful for track (oil pressure and temp too)
Yeah I’m keen to see the difference in power and how much. When I go through the tank to see the fuel surge issues, I’ll check the pump and may even replace it ready for racing next year
Good luck for 2024 mate 👊👊👊
KFC aussie
Definitely love to see a cool suit 👍
Have you tried 2nd gear at the forth corner after the bridge, the left hander, you're loosing a lot of ground there and compromises you're chances of an overtake at turn one.
I have a few times, but on exit the car is screaming and I’m changing straight back to third. But of an awkward corner, too fast for second, bit too slow for third. If I can figure it out and nail it, I know I could do it in third
I don't get the camera angle. It pans left during a RH corner and right during a LH corner! It cuts the view???
Probably has something to do with the stabilisation of the camera. If I don’t use it, you guys would be seasick from all the vibrations. I’ll look in to how to fix it :)
What rpm do you shift at Mitch? Sometimes it sounds like you're up shifting early, especially from 2-3 unless that gap is just big - there might be a gearing advantage to revving it out to redline - sweet footage
Usually about 6k. Def some power loss down low, and I could push it out to around 6500, but being an old box, not sure I would want to sit on the limiter that much. Hopefully getting one built soon that will be a bit better. I generally feel the power drops off just over 6000 revs though especially in the slower corners. I have a few theories as to why, so ill do some investigating to see what I can find
@@BigRigRacing I see - the HP peak for the G4FK is 6000 rpm, which explains the power drop sensation, but the gearing advantage, especially in 1-3 usually means there's still more peak accel revving it out - something to test if you're ever on a dyno or ask some competitors - motor sounds good through my speakers anyways!
@@kristianhermann5971 yeah the motor sounds pretty good, although I do think it’s got some rings on the way out, and possibly some bad sensors, which I think it’s contributing to the loss of power coming out of the slower corners. The old girl had done alright for a stock engine, gearbox, old sensors, smaller exhaust, an inefficient air box, and never been on a dyno haha
@@BigRigRacing Indeed! If you have access to someone else's torque curve from a dyno test, you can use gear ratios and this method to calc wheel torque at a given rpm (which governs peak accel) ua-cam.com/video/zZBqb0ZJSwU/v-deo.htmlsi=_tVzKnB0xqkKc0ZE
Thought you had him at the end, Mitch. Perhaps a few more laps would have done it. Well done.
Nice.
Been watching since the start. Seems like you made some real progress with your race craft this weekend. You were battling in that first race, and it seemed like you were competitive in the medium/fast corners. Keep it up 👍
Thanks mate :). The more I think about it, the better I’m feeling about where I’m at
Solid drive Mitch - your car control is definitely improved over your first couple races
Yeah, I’m learning that it doesn’t take much steering input to get these cars to turn. That combined with the work my feet do, it’s starting to feel nice out on track
doing awesome big man, track was a good 2 seconds a lap slower than usual, this seasons just about getting to know the tracks and the people, next year with a new heart youll be on it.
Thanks mate. I can see the improvements, but as always, just want to go faster haha.
A very positive performance, Mitch. I can see a definite improvement in your race craft. As you said, the slower corners was your issue but that's a good issue to have. It's fixable. Looking forward to hearing your plans for next year.
Thanks mate, just lacking the little bit of bottom end speed I think. Will get it sorted for next year.
That is very lightweight:-) Is it FIA approved or only Snell?
FIA 8859-2015 approved :)
@@BigRigRacing That is crazy low. Did you weigh it yourself? Not easy to find official figures..
@@autoklasse yeah there is nothing really out there about how much they weigh. With the larger sizes, they get a little heavier, only fractionally though. When I bought the helmet, the guys at the shop told me how much it weighed and I didn’t believe them until I got home and weighed it myself. Wore it for the first time last weekend in a race, and I have never been so comfortable.
@@BigRigRacing that is so nice. I think I am gonna buy one myself now 🤗
Awesome! Well done 👍
Awesome build! Hey by any chance, could you share that bottle holder cad model? I am also building a drinks system and that would work great! I'm not very good at CAD so it would help me out a ton.
For sure I can, but the bottle would need to match the size of mine. If it’s not, send me the dimensions and I can try and make a cad file for it that you could print
@@BigRigRacingThat would be amazing! My bottle size is 2.15in diameter and 9.75in in height
You are really hot…… 😉
